This Week's News
- Veterans' Day Parade Participation CANCELLED! Due to miscommunication within parade management, Hillwood Band will not be performing in this year's parade. This unfortunate mishap works in our favor: students will only miss ONE "A" day this week.
- Next Band Booster Meeting Tuesday, Nov 10. Please join us for the next Booster meeting. The meeting will be in the Rehearsal Hall at 6:00 PM.
- Side-by-Side Concert with BMS Thursday and Friday, Nov 12 & 13 with a Guest Conductor. Select 7th and 8th graders from Bellevue Middle School Band will be performing in a "side-by-side" concert with the Hillwood HS Band. Students should be in their best "Sunday dress" for the concert, which begins at 6:00 PM, with a light reception to follow. More information is included in the comments from Mr. Chester.
The students will be charged a $10 participation fee that will cover the pizza lunch, music, and conductor stipend. Band members should have this turned in no later than Thursday evening before rehearsal in order to participate. (Checks need to be made out to Hillwood Band Boosters.
Parents are asked NOT to bring reception donations; this will be covered.
- Next Band Statements out November 10. The next band account statements will be handed out at the general booster meeting on Tuesday, November 10. Please review your student's account balance and make sure it is below $200 or less if they are attended the Chicago trip. Non-Chicago participants should have balances of $100 or less. (For families with payment arrangements please refer to your payment agreement.)
Some students still owe money for marching shoes, under-armour shirts, and/or black polo's. Please take care of these amounts before the end of November.
REMINDER: the next installment of $100 for Chicago participants is due on Tuesday, December 1.
- Upcoming Events! Several events have been added to the calendar for November. Please look for more information in the coming newsletters, or in letters sent home.

- Now Accepted: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX, and PayPal. Band fees can now be paid by using a variety of methods through PayPal. Don't forget donations! We have a place for that now, too. Visit the HHS Band website at http://www.hillwoodband.com/ to see (and use) them.

From Mr. Chester
Dear Parents:
We will be hosting select students from the Bellevue Middle School Band this Thursday and Friday, culminating in an evening concert. Students should report to the school by 5:00 PM to be ready for warm-up beginning at 5:30 PM. Dress for the evening is "Sunday best": slacks, a button shirt and tie for the men and slacks, "conservative" skirt and blouse for the ladies.
There will be a $10 participation fee that will cover a pizza lunch, music, and the conductor stipend. Please have your band member turn this is prior to the Thursday evening rehearsal.
Students have been told that they can come in/out of rehearsal to attend a class they feel they cannot miss. Please talk to your band member so that s/he can make good decisions about which classes they really need to be in and also can leave and reenter rehearsal with as little disruption as possible.
Parents and band members can expect the following:
Thursday 5:30 PM . check in and gather things for evening rehearsal
Thursday 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM ... evening rehearsal with guest conductor
Friday 8:30 AM . gather things for morning rehearsal
Friday 9:00 AM - 3:15 PM . rehearsal, with a break for pizza lunch
Friday 5:00 PM . gather items for pre-concert warm-up
Friday 5:30 PM . warm-up on stage
Friday 6:00 PM . concert, with light reception to follow
I'm really looking forward to what I hope is the first of many productive concerts with our cluster schools.

Additional Comments
What happened to the copper ribbon?!
Unlike the silver starts, the copper ribbon is not an "official" part of the band's dress uniform and was used only as a "prop" for this year's marching show. Because of this, it has been removed. Some parents have expressed a desire to keep the strip of ribbon. If you would like a strip or two, please see either Gail Reeder or Cindy Franco.
