Band Camp Recap:
What a busy week it's been already! We've been talking about getting a "day in band camp" out all week, and just haven't gotten around to it. BUT, as parents, we are so much further ahead in other ways. We appreciate your assistance in getting all the paperwork, and band camp fees, in when requested. This is the FIRST year that has happened and has made it easier to support the program and Mr. Chester.
As for band camp - it's off to a terrific start! The kids jumped right in and started learning the show. The music sounds fantastic. Don't be alarmed - it is very different from anything the kids have done in the past. This year we added games. Have you heard about them? The kids seem to be having a lot of fun during this time.
A typical day in band camp:
8:45 The rehearsal hall opens
9:00 Leadership team meets (this includes section leaders and field commandrers)
10:00 Band camp begins; students gather in the auditorium lobby
10:30 Cardio/Flexibility in the gym
11:00 Fundamentals
12:00 Lunch on campus (students bring their lunches)
12:30 Section rehearsals
2:30 Break
4:30 Team building exercises
5:00 Dinner (provided)
6:00 Learn drill
8:50 Closing announcements
9:00 Band camp ends
9:15 Band hall closes
This schedule will continue throughout the week, with the exception being Saturday. Camp will conclude with a performance for the parents and community. Look for more information about this later.
Would you like to see pictures of band camp? We have an unlisted Picasa account to share these pictures.
Dinner is being organized by sections this week.
Thursday (pancakes, bacon, fruit) Front Ensemble
Friday (hotdogs, chips, fruit) Color Guard
(We also have a few leftovers for those who would prefer something different, not to mention PBJ.)
There is still plenty to do before marching season begins. Any help is welcome for any amount of time you can donate during the day or in the evenings. We need to work on props for the show, cleaning the concession stand to get it ready for football games, uniforms fitting and sewing, organizing, etc. If you can help, please come and someone should be there to point you in a direction. If you don't find another parent, check with a director.
For our new parents, Band Camp always ends with a performance, more of a "sneak preview" of the show. We hope you will be able to join us Saturday. (More information will follow.)
Have a good day and hope to see you around soon!
